  • The island & sheep

    Last week we spent 2 days on an island that has less than 25 people that live there permanently. There was wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour for the 2 days we where on the island. Howling in the corners of the house we stayed in.

    It was beautiful & so quiet, the only thing we heard was the sound of sheep bells & wind. We went to the book barn on the island & spent an hour looking at books & we bought a few.

    The day we had on the island we went hiking down to the part of the island that no one lives on as it faces Scotland & the Shetland Islands. As the wind howled in our ears we made it halfway & decided to turn around.

    Hovden was the name of the island & the four car ferry was very cute. The Northern Atlantic was as quiet as a lake the day we left. On the way out to the island the ferry was swaying with the waves. The locals barely noticed the swaying of the boat.

    It was magical to be out there knowing the Shetlands where right out there in the ocean. Hovden is a place I’d like to go back to.

  • The flatbed truck & a tunnel.

    My husband had the last few weeks off work so we decided to take a road trip up to Kinn & the islands off of Florø. I have to say is a beautiful place. We spent 2 days on an island with less than 25 people on it.

    We went to this cool book barn & found some cool books. Had a leisurely time the second day on the island. We did some hiking, my husband made us good food & we watched the mountains surrounding the island.

    On the way back we where going thru a tunnel when ABS brakes began acting up & thought we’d get stuck in the tunnel. I have not been as scared as I was yesterday as I was when the car freaked out.

    We did make it out of the tunnel & found a place to park the car while I called the tow company & told them we needed help. We waited for the tow truck for an hour while we ate some bread & aired out the dog.

    When tow truck guy came he told us we had to stay in the car while he towed us to our garage. Sitting in the back of a flatbed truck in the car was crazy Scary. It made the car breaking down in the tunnel not feel so extreme.

    We had one small narrow fjord we had to drive thru to get back to the city. Thankfully the tow truck driver drove 45 miles an hour the whole way to the garage. I was soo impressed with his driving I told him so at the garage.

    Being on an nearly deserted island was cool sitting in the back of the flatbed truck was terrifying. So next time your car says to get it serviced do It or you may end up like us going for the ride of lives in the back of the truck.

  • White Lotus

    I am obsessed with the show “The White Lotus” how it shows class ignorance & blatant racism makes for a great show. Set in Maui rich South shore where all the resorts are neatly stacked next to each other. How little the cast interacts with the locals speak volumes about the characters set in the show.

    From only spending time on the resorts grounds to sitting by the pool. It’s as if they’re in a fish bowl or the “Truman show.” It shows how little the upper classes interact with what’s around them. Or how much or how little they grasp. Like one of the characters who’s deathly ill but shrugs it off as if death is the laps he swims in the pool.

    Or the two mean girls who are addicted to pills & special K. Who’s life comes into focus when the resort manager takes their stash. They begin to see the narrow world their “friendship” exists in. How small & uncomfortable the Luau becomes when their racism is on full display.

    The resort sitting on sacred Hawaiian ground is only presented for a mere minute; the characters all seem ignorant to this but the young brother who gets invited to paddle on a native canoe with the locals wants to stay. The family quickly come up with things “they can do at home.”

    As if his choice is somehow less because he understood the culture that’s native Hawaiian. I could ramble on & on about “The White Lotus”, guess you’ll need to see it yourself. I question how I was on Maui when I was there. I wasn’t fond of the southern part of the island, but preferred the locals north Island. The show asks how narrow or wide is your view.
