If you could relive one year of your life, which one would it be?
23 I had a really bad year. The highlight was that I met some really good people & friends but other than that it was a year I look back on & am in wonder I didn’t try to hurt myself.
You may ask what made it so bad, several factors came into play. Such as a wine bottle being more worthy than my life. Recognizing that I had grown up in a toxic house. I refer to my home that I share with my husband but when I visit my parents that is not home it’s simply a house.
The difference being I feel safe in the home I share with my husband but not in my parents house. That’s the difference between most children of domestic violence & those that didn’t grow up in it.
When I was 23 years old I learned that my life wasn’t worth very much to either of my parents. I was nearly killed over a bottle of wine by my father & things turned to the worse after the assault.
For over 10 years after the assault I could not run short distances without getting a massive migraine. I spent years in therapy, for acute PTSD.
Sometime in the middle of the 2000s that turned into bipolar disorder. Back when I was 23, I met a kind guy named Michael who became pivotal not only in my therapy but in my recovery.
Learning to trust after an assault is really hard. I feel grateful for the kind people I met that are still in my life. I’d to my 23 year old all over again if it meant I wasn’t nearly killed.
