• why hiking is

good for you. i just came back from a 90 minute romp in nature with my husband. it was an important trip because he was frustrated & cabin fevered & the dog needed to go out. i think being out in nature clears your head & gives you a different perspective.

i have hiked my whole life-& really enjoy days where the weather is not perfect like today. the wind is howling & it is an onslaught of rain as you make your way through the mountains. there is not as many people out & so you have the trail to yourself.

a month ago i hiked the djevelporten in Svolvær-or the Devils port as it is known. we hit snow & difficult climbing conditions & where sore for days afterward but the feeling of accomplishment was immmense. like last year when my husband & i hiked Mt. Pilchuck in Seattle. the conditions where really good that day but the amount of unprepared hikers was scary. no water or proper shoes. the list is endless.

hiking in Norway is different because most of the time the people you encounter are prepared sometimes over prepared even for small hikes in the neighborhood. we like to carry water & have some sort of nourishment with us as we hike or when we take a break. today, i am happy to report we beat the rain as i look out the window it is really coming down.

remember next time life gets you stressed-get outside!!

entries. wow. how cool is that. to think i have written that much is awesome. even though my audience has been small i have not minded as i get to get better at writing through blogging. my life has changed alot in a decade. i was on the brink of homelessness when i began writing & writing kept me sane when i was in the women´s shelter for nearly a year. oh the Drama there was.

being homeless for a summer has taught me not to take people for granted. i like having things but also realize that i can give them away & still be okay. like those really expensive hiking pants i found yesterday. we can afford them but it´s not a priority. Food, shelter & electricity comes first. the rest can wait.

i began writing in the summer of 2007 on an now defunct acer-Laptop. boy how things have changed. now i have something much sleeker & less clunky. but that acer was the ace a decade ago. i thought it was fast-well for it´s time it was. i would blog in my favorite cafe´s, sipping on 8 oz latte´s while i people watched & wrote.

i have gained weight since then & changed my hair-my way of thinking. but alas that also comes with age. so if you are bored on some sunday afternoon feel free to read my Archives from that year i am sure you will find my funny. as i was very dramatic. when you have women coming up to you & saying they are going to own the clothes you are presently wearing it does NOT make one feel good. but i got some good friends from that time & i am grateful to have lived through it.

  • here i am finally Back on a computer instead of using a phone to blog and it´s really refreshing. to see what i am writing on a regular screen instead of guessing on a small one.

this past week has been really exciting-first i thought i´d lose teeth. i didn´t!! then we took a car trip for the day to Tromsø and walked around for a bit. it was fun, it had the college town feel among throes of tourists.

the road there was lovely in the morning as there wasn´t a rain cloud in sight & then on the way back we hit the rain but it was okay. the road way was wide so it was not a big deal.

here i am writing again and my husband is working on stuff around the house. just like in Seattle. oh Yeah and we have rain. lots of it. which is okay because it feels like the PNW.

other than that i found smashing hiking pants today for mere $200…no i didn´t buy them but it would sure like to. they where cool. Fail this week was attempting to buy shoes from the internet that was not zappos. i have to return them such fun….not. hope everyone has a fab summmer and will write again soon. promise.
