Salmon & Pirogues

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

At our house my husband & I have started our own traditions. On Christmas Eve it’s all Scandinavian but on Christmas Day it’s all American.

Christmas Eve, we have the traditional herring & salmon with an open faced omelette. We have decided to forgo Pinnesjøtt as it’s Very salty & for me brings up unpleasant memories. Pinnesjøtt is dried, smoked cured lamb. But we end the meal by opening up a box of fancy chocolate for our dessert.

Christmas Day, is all about my husband’s traditions. We have pirogues with fried onions & ham. We also save presents from his parents & open it. The pirogues are homemade with cheese & potato. The whole pirogues are made from scratch.

Our house smells good from Thanksgiving to Christmas Day. We also bake cookies some Scandinavian & some American.

Happy Holidays everyone!
